PC Devastation

You gotta love PC’s. Even when they are brand new they can crap out on you and POOF! it’s all gone. No one is safe because they have a mind of their own. Yesterday my computer decided to freeze up and die and it’s not even a year old. Now I admit I use the computing power of a NASA server and I have 20 programs installed on my computer and even though I have a great computer with max memory it still can’t handle me. So yesterday it just decided to give up. Now thankfully I have a good amount of tech savvy so I knew what to do to save it and just wiped it clean and started fresh, but most people don’t. And I learned long ago that if you don’t backup constantly it will all be gone in a heartbeat and that can be devestating like having your house go up in flames. So because I have a great system for backing up and I’m diligent about it wiping it all out and starting over took all of 3 hours and it was like it never happened. So my point here is BACK UP!!!! You have no excuse becuase it’s just so easy and in expensive. You can set your external backup to do it all for you every night and you don’t even have to think about it. So for $70 you have saved your life and your business from some potential devesation. Anyone can do it. IF you know how to check your email your fully capable of setting up a backup drive. It trully astounds me how many people don’t backup their files.
I know I’m being a bit dramatic but when you turn on your computer and nothing happens and you realize that your clients files are gone or that video of your daughter’s first steps will never be seen again you will wish you had backed it all up. Another big part of this is having an anti-virus program. Do you have one? If it’s just what came with your computer then you don’t have one. There are a few big ones out there and they are not all created equal. McAfee doesn’t have the coverage that Norton or Kaspersky do and Norton slows down your system so much you’d think you were in 1990. I think Kaspersky is the best and it doesn’t have all these annoying popups to tell you about the littlest thing. I don’t want you to tell me every time you block something I just want you to do it and pretend your not there. But you do have to make sure you keep it up to date otherwise it’s worthless and every month I run a full system scan to make sure nothing got through. If you do these two things it will all be smooth sailing and now that VCR’s are a thing of the past life is good.
